VOLTERRA AND SAN GIMIGNANO
Meeting of the participants at the agreed place and time and departure
with G.T. bus. Arrival in VOLTERRA for visiting the old village and its
most important monuments. When we arrive we find the impressive
figure of the MASTIO splendid building built on the highest terrace of the
mount of Volterra, where the acropolis of the Etruscan and Roman town
was rising, one of the most incredible fortresses ever built in Italy by the
Renaissance architecture and today high-security prison. To visit: the heart
of the small town with the Piazza dei Priori and its monuments: Palazzo
Pretorio, Torre del Porcellino, Palazzo Vescovile; the Boundary Wall, its Doors;
Case Torri: Toscano, Buonparenti, Baldinotti; the Renaissance Palaces, the "Duomo"; the Roman Amphitheatre, the Necropolis and the Acropolis.
Possibility to go shopping in handcraft Alabaster-producing shops and to
visit the laboratories. FREE LUNCH. Then transfer to SAN GIMIGNANO, the
village of the “HUNDRED TOWERS” that in May 1300 gave hospitality to
Dante Alighieri. Guided visit of the wonderful small town, disseminated
with historically and artistically very important monuments, towers and
churches. Return to the starting point.

LIVORNO, THE COAST AND THE SEA
Meeting of the participants at the agreed
place and time and departure with G.T.
bus. Arrival in LIVORNO and
panoramic tour of the Tuscan seafaring
town par excellence, run along by the typical
FOSSI” initially useful for discharging the
goods, then transfer to the typical “American market”, permanent market very much
loved by the people of Livorno, where you can really find everything and where you can
breath the multiethnic and popular soul of the true Livorno. Continuation of the excursion;
through the panoramic road we reach MONTENERO, hill on whose top there is a Sanctuary,
just called of Our Lady of Montenero dating back to the XIVth century. Nice climbing to the
Sanctuary with the FUNICULAR railway. With our guide we will visit the Sanctuary, the
Grottos, the ex vow particulars (the most imitated collection of Italy). Return through a
path immersed into the Mediterranean bush, arrival in CASTIGLIONCELLO holiday resort;
thanks to the beauty of its places and the wonderful sea, it was loved by famous actors like
Mastroianni and Gassman in the 60ies. It was also source of inspiration of the pictorial
current MACCHIAIOLI. LUNCH IN RESTAURANT WITH TERRACE DIRECTLY ON THE SEA
(with choice between two menus: Spaghetti with shell fishes, mixed salad or French fries,
drinks or Fried Fish, mixed salad or French fries, drinks). Free time with possibility to hire
sunshade and leaning chair in the adjacent bathing establishment or walk along the
beautiful sea promenade up to the pine-wood, from where it is possible to reach the town
center and the Pasquini Castle immersed in a wonderful park. Meeting with the bus in the
established place. Return to the starting point.

PISA WITH NAVIGATION
Meeting of the participants at the agreed place
and time and departure with G.T. bus. This kind
of mini-cruise allows admiring the different
environments on the river and navigating across
the historical town, visiting the palaces and churches that appear on the river. Arrival at the
San Rossore Park (it alone deserves to be visited),
embarkation on the ferry-boat and navigation along the particularly
suggestive river stretch from a naturalistic point of view (big fishing nets,
fisherman houses, etc.) bound for the town of PISA. Arrival downtown and
continuation of the Tour dei Lungarni: one-hour mini-cruise through the
center of the town of Pisa with visit of churches (Basilica di San Paolo, Exconvent
Benedettine, San Vito, Santa Cristina, San Michele degli Scalzi, etc.)
and palaces and buildings that appear on the river, having special artistic
value (Torre Guelfa, Palazzo Lanfranchi, Palazzo Roncioni, Museum San
Matteo, Fortezza Nuova or Giardino Scotto, Romanesque Church of S. Michele
degli Scalzi). At the end disembarkation and after a short walk across the
historical town center, during which we could discover other artistic beauties,
we reach the very famous Piazza dei Miracoli, with the famous LEANING
TOWER, the Duomo and the Baptistery. Time for lunch free or in restaurant
(optional to reserve at the time of registration) and for visiting the most
famous square of the world. Return to the starting point.

CAPRAIA ISLAND
Meeting of the participants at the agreed place and
time and departure with G.T. bus. Arrival in Livorno,
embarkation on the ferry-boat bound for the
Capraia Island belonging to the Park of the Tuscan
Archipelago and therefore very important from the
naturalistic point of view of the land and sea flora and
fauna (navigation 2H30). Disembarkation at about 11.30 and start of the visit of
Capraia a true pearl of the Mediterranean Sea, rock ground with the unequivocal
volcanic origin. The tour leader will make an interesting introduction and description
of the different aspects of the island; stop for visiting the Church of the Assunta.
Stop for LUNCH FREE or in restaurant with a basis of fish (optional to reserve at the
time of registration). In the afternoon the visit goes on, we will reach on foot the
very particular high-located village - for those who don’t want to walk, possibility
to take a mini-bus that plies up and down the island (ticket to be paid on place).
In the little square there is the big church of San Nicola and of Sacro Cuore di
Gesù whose internal ornaments surely deserve to be visited for their historical
interest bound to special events of the island. Still at the top, outside visit of the
FORTE SAN GIORGIO with the powerful bastions, the sentry-boxes, the millstones,
the well and the collection channels. At the end free time available for further visits
or bathing in really clear waters. Possibility to make a tour by motor-boat for an
about two-hour long excursion for discovering little coves and small bays (optional
excursion to be bought on place) with stop for bathing in crystalline waters. Return
to the port, short stop and embarkation on the ferry-boat. Arrival in Livorno and
return foreseen late in the evening. Return to the starting point.
